Phenomenal Women's Alliance Hosts 4th Annual Leadership Awards Luncheon
Ashburn, Va.-Phenomenal Women's Alliance (PWA) will honor Virginia's 32nd District Senator Janet D. Howell, with the Legend Award for her commitment to public service. "Senator Howell demonstrates what it means for women to make their mark in the highly competitive world of politics often dominated by a network of men,” said Vanessa Allen, president and CEO of PWA. "Janet Howell has been a community leader for over thirty years and has proudly represented the residents of the 32nd Senate District for 16,” she continued. "She has used her position in the Senate to benefit the residents of Northern Virginia in the areas of education, transportation, human services and public safety and for this and her many other accomplishments, PWA is proud to bestow upon her this award.”
The Annual Leadership Awards Luncheon, held on Saturday, April 24th at the Westin Tysons Corner, is the organization's signature fundraiser of the year. The event recognizes women who have made significant contributions to their fields and who demonstrate a commitment to building and strengthening the community through their efforts. The theme of the luncheon, Breakthrough: "Embracing your Passion,” encapsulates the mission and focus of PWA and its membership.
Along with Senator Howell, Dr. E. Gail Anderson Holness will be honored with the lifetime achievement award in theology and education. Maimah Karmo will receive an award for humanitarian service and Dr. Ludy Green will receive the vision and innovation award. And noted journalist Hazel Trice Edney is the recipient of the journalism and news award.
This year's event includes a book signing by co-author Candace Sandy—"Tears to Triumph” in which she shares a framework for helping women move beyond just surviving to thriving and, most importantly, it shows women how to use their own adversities as a blueprint for future success
The luncheon, which is a fundraising event for Haitian relief features special guest speakers, networking & entertainment, a showcase of vendors and business and merchandising opportunities. Through community service projects, PWA impacts the community, the region and the nation. The luncheon provides PWA the opportunity to extend the focus and efforts on the disaster relief efforts for Haiti. Tickets are available on-line at the PWA website.
